Godparents should be practicing Catholics, persons who take their faith seriously and are able to see the importance of baptism. Godparents build on having a caring relationship with the child as well as guiding the child through their faith.
Godparents should have received their First Communion and Sacrament of Confirmation and if married it must be by the Catholic Church. Certificates of Confirmation are required.
Couples not married by the Catholic Church may not be godparents. Couples who are married should bring a marriage certificate by church.
Parents not married by the Catholic Church need to attend a workshop. That date will be given to the parents on the day of registration.
Parents & Godparents out of the area need to obtain a letter of recommendation from the parish to which they belong in order to act as godparents at our parish.
We simply ask that you respect the dignity and holiness of the Sacrament by not putting over importance to the taking of pictures during the actual ceremony. There is plenty of time to take pictures before and after the ceremony. You need to inform your family and friends about this policy.
A date for baptism can not be set until all requirements are completed.
After both parents and godparents have read all the above information and agree on all requirements then you may proceed to register.
